As Route 50 skirts Kansas City to the south. County Club Plaza beckons a few miles to the north, an oasis before mile upon mile of plains, mountains, and deserts.

“The Plaza” covers 17 square blocks and has a very strong sense of place, because of a consistent design based on the architecture of Seville, Spain. It opened in 1923 as the first shopping area designed to accommodate people arriving in cars. Parking, in garages rather than sprawling lots, is still free.

It features notable shopping opportunities, and, most important to the weary traveler, lots of good places to eat.
